Companies that wish to make sustainability claims may be granted an ecolabel to help consumers identify that a product has met certain environmental or social standards. Ecolabels are divided into different categories e.g. energy efficiency or fair trade, or the environmental impact of a product from manufacture through to disposal, and companies need to meet the required standards of their chosen ecolabel category.
